Rancho Biosciences is seeking a bioinformatics scientist with demonstrated people-management experience. This client-facing role includes scientific analysis responsibilities, technical leadership opportunities and line management of a small team of bioinformatics scientists (3-5 direct reports). Management duties include providing coaching and training to meet employee development needs, assigning team members to appropriate projects to meet client deadlines, identifying gaps in group skill sets and hiring to fill needs, and meeting with clients to develop new project proposals.

The bioinformatics group at Rancho Biosciences provides analytical and engineering services to a wide range of pharmaceutical, academic, and institutional clients. Our support portfolio covers a diverse range of biological domains, with particular emphasis in human disease, especially oncology and immuno-oncology. Rancho BioSciences is seeking to fill a Data Wrangler for Life Sciences position. An ideal candidate is a PhD scientist trained in the Life Sciences who acquired, through either formal training or experience, scripting and data science skills. An ideal candidate for this position will have a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, superior communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Requirements

  • PhD scientist with 2-5 years of applicable experience.
  • Ability to perform data wrangling and mapping to defined metadata and data standards, primarily using Python or R and associated relevant packages.
  • Demonstrated excellence in attention to detail and delivery.
  • Use of a strong background in biology and bioinformatics to critically review both scientific literature and other code and apply the concepts/methods therein.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Senior Data Knowledge Engineer you will be responsible for delivering results across the organization in the field of data management, and data architecture. Your primary focus will be on projects that include assessing data current state, creating future state specifications, delivering short and term data strategy and data integration roadmaps. Your primary focus will be leading projects and people to deliver integrated data management solutions in the space of life sciences. Majority of the projects will include preclinical and clinical data, including GxP data.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead, develop and manage a team of data scientists, data engineers, and developers;
  • Interface with clients on a day-to-day basis;

Experience:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to architect and manage informatics systems in GxP space, provide technical leadership, develop data strategy;
  • Experience developing technical documentation, including design specs, for clinical/preclinical informatics systems; familiarity with clinical decision support
    systems; knowledge of SDLC
  • Understanding of healthcare regulatory compliance requirements and standards;
  • Experience with conceptual, logical, physical data modeling, understanding of semantic data modeling
