Senior Scientist in Bioinformatics  (Full-time REMOTE)

Rancho Biosciences is seeking a senior bioinformatics scientist to provide analytical services in a variety of client-facing roles. Work from home while supporting high impact pharmaceutical, academic and institutional science programs. A proven track record of collaborative and independent contributions to genomic, transcriptomic and clinical data projects is required. A working knowledge of modern software tools and best practice method is also critical. This position is a unique opportunity for an individual to make a real impact on human health alongside our team of curators, computational biologists, biostatisticians and computer scientists.

Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, or related field with 5+ years pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with NGS data and demonstrated expertise in a relevant topic (differential expression, single cell processing and genomic variation skills are in highest demand)
  • Amazing communication skills and attention to detail are a must.
  • Proficiency in best practice programming with R. Experience with a secondary scripting language (python, perl) is also required, but secondary to R.
  • Exposure to public data sources, such as TCGA, CCLE, Ensembl, GTEx, Achilles, etc.

We are specifically looking for individuals with experience in development of user-driven applications for the query and visualization of biological data. This should include advanced techniques such as modular functionality, JavaScript integration and dynamic UI elements. Experience leveraging data served from alternative sources (database connections, json documents or s3 buckets) is also highly recommended. A proven track record of collaborative and independent contributions to similar applications is necessary. A working knowledge of modern software tools, cloud computing and pipeline development is also critical. Rancho Biosciences is seeking a Data Curator to provide curation of laboratory data, collection of assay metadata and management of data files.

In this role you will:
Contribute to planning and implementation efforts to provide informatics solutions for laboratory data management.
Ensure data is generated, received, cataloged, structured, and analyzed in a timely and efficient manner to meet the needs of client.
In collaboration with terminology management and curation teams, support the definition of new data standards, data models, terminologies, and ontologies.
Communicate strategies, ideas, goals, and progress to the team.
Collaborate frequently with clinical scientists, statisticians, data curators, terminology experts, and database specialists.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline. Master’s/PhD preferred.
3-5 years relevant or equivalent experience.
Thorough understanding of complex biomedical/biomarker data (e.g. RNA-Seq, WES, Microarray, Flow Cytometry, Mass Spec, Immunoassay, and Immunohistochemistry) is required.
Thorough understanding of R&D processes and the scientific data lifecycle.
Experience with scientific data management tools and techniques, informatics systems, and managing scientific stakeholder relationships is highly desirable.
Knowledge of the UNIX operating system, and familiarity with a scripting language (e.g., Perl or Python) or a statistical programming environment (e.g., R or SAS) is a plus.
Understanding of data standards, semantics, terminologies, ontologies, and best practices for data governance. Familiarity with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data guiding principles is a plus.
Exposure to public biomedical ontologies and standards consortiums (e.g. OBI, NCI, MedDRA, MeSH, LOINC, Uberon, RxNorm, CDISC, Allotrope, OHDSI, or FHIR) is a plus.
